Rajendra Kumar Shyam was born in the year 1982 in Patangarh, Dist-Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, India, and he belongs to Pardhan (Gond) caste. His Gond artwork signifies a perceptible vocabulary driven by an archival impulse, as his canvases are filled with perfectly symmetric, dense compositions which narrate elaborate stories from Gond culture and depict scenes from rural life.
Thanks to Artist Shampa Shah who encouraged him to pursue art as a career, he took up painting as his full-time profession in 2007. Earlier he worked many jobs as a laborer at the Indira Gandhi National Human Museum, Bhopal. But he was still passionate about art, and after work, he used to paint in the evenings. His works are painted with earth colors or primary colors such as red, green, yellow, and black which have traditionally been used by the community of Gond and have traditional values.
