A botanist by training, Baiju Parthan carefully examines images from the media, dissecting them, and then meticulously reassembling them into a finished painting. He paradoxically uses mechanical tools to produce unique works of art by planning his paintings on a computer screen. He collects and rearranges online-sourced materials until he achieves a pleasing balance, which he then transfers to the canvas. Parthan, who formerly worked as a cartoonist for the Times of India Group Publications in Bombay, is also an expert in comparative mythology and philosophy. These factors all significantly influence his art, and his paintings, despite coming from different sources, have a consistent, almost narrative quality.
