Arunkumar H.G. was born in Karnataka in 1968 and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Fine Art, specialising in sculpture, from M.S. University of Baroda's Faculty of Fine Arts.
Arun Kumar's use of readymade objects such as toys, plastic, ceramics, cow dung, hay, and TV monitors demonstrates his attraction to the neo-pop movement. His toy-like, yet intricate sculptural works frequently convey a straightforward message. However, Arunkumar occasionally alters the dynamics of this relationship, creating works that appear simple on the surface but convey a complex message that contradicts their appearance.
The artist's colourful imagery, illusive and sometimes even exotic, may be perplexing to the viewer at first glance. However, once the sources of his inspiration are revealed and comprehended, their multi-layered associations become clear.
Photographs and inflatable sculptures made of canvas, latex, synthetic fur, rubber, foam, and fiberglass are among his previous works. 'Feed' at Nature Morte, New Delhi and Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 2006; 'Inflatable works' at Nature Morte, New Delhi, 2001; and Studio Gallery, Garhi Artist Studio, New Delhi, 1997 are among his solo exhibitions. Arunkumar is also a member of the Khoj Artist Collective, a contemporary art organisation that promotes international art dialogue and exchange, and has completed residencies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi in 2005 and the University of South Australia in Adelaide in 2007. The artist currently resides and works in Delhi, NCR.
