Ajit Seal, who was born in 1958, graduated from Guwahati College of Art with a diploma in painting in 1979. After that, he joined the Garhi Studio in Delhi, where he studied printmaking techniques. He completed his post-diploma at the Kala Bhavana Department of Printmaking before working as a lecturer at the Government College of Art and Craft in Assam.
He connected the worlds of painting and printmaking by becoming fascinated with and concentrating on lithography. He also looked into platography, which uses an aluminium plate in place of the lithographic stone. The artist frequently uses human and animal forms in her artwork. He is currently a faculty at Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan's Department of Printmaking.
